ARNHEM - A 42-year-old man from Nijmegen who allegedly shot dead a 68-year-old woman in the Cronjéstraat in Nijmegen last year was sentenced Friday to 18 years in prison. The shooting was during the Whitsun weekend. That weekend shots were also fired at a café in the Malvert neighborhood and at a flat in the Tolhuis neighborhood. According to the 42-year-old, the fatal shooting was an accident. The suspect's 32-year-old girlfriend was also arrested after the shooting. She was released last November and will not be prosecuted for involvement in the murder.
