Task sentence stays in terror case 'Dombo and the Frog' (1Limburg.nl)

Even after cassation, the community service sentence for one of the two men in the 'Dombo and the Frog' case remains for threatening an attack from a shed along the A2 near Roosteren.

Björn M. of Brunssum and Milko V. of Hoensbroek threatened an attack from a shed in a field on Nov. 16, 2015. The suspects were dressed in elephant and frog suits when they were apprehended. The case is therefore also known as "Dumbo and the Frog.

'You are speaking to IS'

From the shed along the A2 that November morning around 7:30 a.m., the pair called 911 twice. According to the judge, phrases such as "you are talking to Islam IS," "the world is ending" and "everything is ready everywhere, everything is prepared" were then used.

Loud bangs

When police received reports of bangs, flashes of light and fire near Roosteren, a major police operation was launched. The suspects had set off fireworks it turned out afterwards. Salient detail: it all happened three days after the attacks in Paris. On November 13, there were several attacks in the Parisian capital, including the one in concert hall Bataclan.

Still less community service

The judge imposed 160 hours of community service on the man who made the call for threatening a terrorist crime and misusing the emergency number. After his initial appeal, he appealed to the Supreme Court. He denies that his phone call had a terrorist intent. The Supreme Court in The Hague does not agree. It says that in order to threaten a terrorist crime one does not necessarily have to have a terrorist intent.

Due to the length of the court proceedings, the defendant's community service ended up being 152 hours. It is not known if his companion also appealed. His attorney could not be reached for comment.
