Cronjéstraat case 16 years in prison (Omroep Gelderland)

NIJMEGEN - The Arnhem District Court on Friday sentenced a 42-year-old Nijmegen man to 16 years in prison for killing a 68-year-old Nijmegen woman in her home on the Cronjéstraat. That same night in June 2011, the man also shot at a café in the Malvert neighborhood and at a man in the Tolhuis neighborhood. This victim was severely wounded.

'Fed up' suspect shot and hit woman

The man had been sentenced to 18 years. He was acquitted of murder. The accused man was friends with the 68-year-old woman. He had hidden a gun in her closet, which he came to retrieve because he was worked up. He shot into the residence and hit the woman. For a long time, the Justice Department assumed intent, because the victim had confessed to the social investigation department that the Nijmegen man's girlfriend was wrongfully receiving benefits. According to the court, the man was slightly diminished culpability.
