Woman arrested in Rotterdam murder case

ROTTERDAM - The Zeeland police, in cooperation with colleagues from the Rotterdam-Rijnmond corps, arrested a Vlissingen woman yesterday in connection with a murder case in Rotterdam. On Sunday afternoon, Jan. 3, police went to a residence on the Catharina Beersmansstraat in that city. This was in response to a report from friends of the victim who had not seen him for some time. Inside the residence, police officers found a deceased man.

It turned out to be a 46-year-old man from South America. Immediately a large-scale investigation (TGO) was launched.

Officers discovered that the 46-year-old South American had come to the Netherlands for vacation on or about Dec. 12, 2009. Additional investigation gave detectives insight into a suspect and a 26-year-old man from Sierra Leone was spotted internationally.

On Saturday morning, January 16, the reported suspect arrived at Zaventem airport in Belgium to catch a plane to Conakry in Africa. He was immediately apprehended and detained there. His extradition has since been requested.

The investigation continued and as a result, two more suspects were arrested yesterday: a 23-year-old woman from Capelle aan den Ijssel and a 42-year-old woman from Vlissingen. Officers forced a door at her place and then detained her.

The woman was arrested for manslaughter, theft with violence and receiving stolen goods. Agents conducted searches in two premises in Capelle aan den IJssel and Vlissingen. The police are continuing the investigation.
