New investigation into P.Besuijen murder case

DEN BOSCH - There will be a new investigation into the death of Eindhoven resident Pieter Besuijen. Beuijen (77) was brutally killed more than three years ago at a gay meeting place in Lierop. The perpetrator stabbed him several times with a knife and stuffed the victim's mouth with pine needles, possibly suffocating the Eindhoven native.Yesterday in Den Bosch, a 44-year-old Mierlon man stood trial at the court of appeal. He claims to be innocent and believes he can prove this through new witness interviews and trace evidence. Among other things, the Mierlon man wants three witnesses to be presented with photographs of a fourth witness, whom he considers to be the possible perpetrator. This witness is the suspect's former neighbor across the street. He can no longer defend himself against the accusation because he has since died.

Earlier this year, the court sentenced the 44-year-old Mierlon man to 13 years in prison and to tbs with injunctive relief. During the trial in court, he remained silent.

Yesterday, he said he will come to a future court hearing with a statement that sheds a different light on the murder case. Throughout virtually the entire court investigation, the defendant has invoked his right to remain silent. That is his right, according to the court, but it does leave open some pressing questions, such as his presence at the gay encounter site and the presence of his DNA on Beuijen's pants. According to the court, these facts demand a reasonable explanation from the defendant. Since he did not give this, the court explained them to his disadvantage. The court assumes that the defendant will give a statement on these very pressing questions.
