Arrests case of ecstasy deaths (Limburger.nl)

MAASTRICHT - Justice has arrested three suspects in the investigation into the contaminated ecstasy pills from which four people have died since November. This was announced yesterday.

They are a 23-year-old woman and two men aged 22 and 25 from Maastricht. They were arrested in their homes in recent weeks. There justice also found a total of 780 grams of ecstasy pills contaminated with PMMA. This substance is not normally found in ecstasy pills and intensifies their effects. The seized pills are being examined by the Netherlands Forensic Institute.

Justice suspects the three of possessing the PMMA pills and trafficking cocaine. The trio has not yet been charged with trafficking or manufacturing these pills. However, the prosecution says it "does have serious indications" of doing so, given the large quantity of pills seized. "Clearly these are not just for personal use," the spokeswoman said. The investigation is still ongoing. The spokeswoman does not rule out multiple arrests.

The 23-year-old Maastricht woman was released this week. However, she is still a suspect in the case. The two men are still in pretrial detention. The lawyer of the 25-year-old Maastricht man says that
his client is not suspected of "culpable homicide" in connection with possession of the PMMA pills.
