The Penitentiary Institution (PI) Alphen aan den Rijn consists of two locations. Location Maatschapslaan and the adjacent location Eikenlaan.

The Eikenlaan location, together with the Maatschapslaan location, forms the penitentiary (PI) Alphen aan den Rijn.

Until July 1, 2014, this location was used as a detention center for immigration detention. The building has a total capacity of 1,014 places, part of which, partly due to renovations, is not yet in use. In Penitentiaire Inrichting (PI) Alphen aan den Rijn, location Eikenlaan, cells have been designated for detainees and, from 2015, also for House of Detention.
