It is not yet clear whether Mohammed G., who had wanted to travel to Syria to join the jihad, is guilty.
The court in Rotterdam was scheduled to rule on his case Wednesday, but wants more information on G.'s mental state before making a decision. A psychologist and psychiatrist have written in a report that G. is completely insane. However, the judges want to know if that applies to the entire period in October and November last year, or if he also had moments when he was able to make decisions on his own.
If those moments were there, G. might have been culpable then. The prosecution has demanded guilty verdicts without sentencing.

According to experts, G. suffers from voices in his head. The suspect himself says they are the spirit of a warrior telling him to go fight in Syria. G. was arrested in November, along with two others. The investigators then found, among other things, stabbing weapons, farewell letters and jihadist writings. The court adjourned the case until Oct. 2. Attorney Serge Weening will try to see if he can get his client G. released pending the final verdict.
