Police arrested a man after a wild chase on the A79 motorway.
Ghost driver
The motorist was driving from Heerlen through the hamlet of Swier in the direction of Valkenburg. On the Emmaberg he received a stop sign, but ignored it. With squealing tires he drove off via the ramp of the A79 motorway in a ghostly fashion.
Shots
In Meerssen, near the A79 ramp, another attempt was made to force the man to stop. In doing so, the police fired several shots. He then drove into the police.
Ambulance
On the Miradorplein in Maastricht, the man was eventually trapped by several police cars. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital by ambulance for examination. It is not yet clear whether he sustained injuries during his flight.Why the motorist wanted to evade police control is not yet known.
