Victim of Pinkpop drama becomes perpetrator himself after accident (Limburger.nl)
- Benti Banach
A Hoensbroeken man was seriously injured after the 2018 Pinkpop accident and then started threatening his ex and mother with death. He thinks the accident was an attack. "I still have the feeling that they want to destroy me," he said.
In the tragic accident the night after Pinkpop, one person died and three were seriously injured. W.B. (28) from Hoensbroek was the worst of the three. He has been in a coma and has undergone surgery several times.
Wreck
During the court hearing against driver Danny S. in July this year, W.B. indicated in his victim impact statement that he has been a physical wreck since the accident and still cannot lift a sack of potatoes. B. was himself a suspect at the time and had to be brought from the prison in Sittard to the court in Maastricht.
His Facebook page shows that he is also not doing well mentally. According to his lawyer Maikel Horsch, these are mitigating circumstances that should be taken into account when assessing the facts for which B. was to appear on Wednesday: stalking and threatening his ex - the mother of his two young children -, his own mother, a family friend and some social workers. Among other things, B. announced on Facebook that he would commit suicide, but before doing so, he had to complete a death list that included the aforementioned people.
Delusions
Justice recognizes that B. has had a difficult time, but notes that he has not been diagnosed with a noncongenital brain injury. He does suffer from delusions and thinks everyone is conspiring against him. According to him, the Pinkpop drama was a deliberate attack that also involved the police and the municipality. "In that he cannot be corrected. He has no insight into his illness," psychologist and psychiatrist have determined.
Anger
B. confirms that he still sees collusion. "And I still have the feeling that they want to destroy me, that I will kill myself." According to prosecutor Marleen Overmeer, the people B. has threatened with death have been "tremendously committed" to him. "They feel sadness, a lot of fear, anger and misunderstanding," she states.
She believes that B. should receive long-term treatment and that society should be protected because there is a chance of recurrence. According to her, the most appropriate punishment is tbs with mandatory treatment. She also demands five months in prison, but B. has already been in remand for about seven months. Attorney Horsch wants his client to be released immediately.
Apologies
B. apologized to his victims. "They have nothing more to fear, I have found myself again," he said. He wants to continue as a singer-songwriter. "I already have eighty lyrics ready." But that may have to be done in a clinic.
The court will rule in two weeks.
