VUGHT - Alex Coppers, son of Vught vagrant Rien Coppens, who was killed last year, expects more arrests in the case of his father's death. Police are keeping a low profile and "do not rule out further arrests.
The case gained momentum this weekend with the arrest of a 46-year-old homeless man in Geldermalsen. He had been considered the prime suspect in the investigation since the death of Rien coppens but had until now been without a trace.
Surprised and delighted
Son Alex Coppens of Vught is "very surprised and very happy" with the suspect's arrest. "Nobody knows how this is going to proceed." Still, he expects more arrests to follow. Coppens assumes that some homeless people were involved in his father's assault. "The vagrants were all charged at the time. Certainly they still came to see him when he died. That they saw how he was covered in flies. And that they left again."
Wanderer Group
The arrested suspect of one of the men of the Vught vagrant group of which Coppens was also a member. The suspect had not been part of the group for long at the time. After Coppens' death, he also went on the run. Other vagrants pointed to him as the perpetrator of the assault.
