Shooting in Heerlen involved phone from drug dealers (Limburger.nl)

The shooting in Vrieheidepark in Heerlen in which a car was riddled with bullets on January 5 and two people were wounded, took place among dealers in the drug circuit. Sources surrounding the investigation confirmed this on Thursday.

At the center of the violence in which those involved shot at each other was allegedly a drug phone. The phone, which allegedly passed from one party into the hands of a rival dealer, contained numerous crucial addresses and important information about potential customers.

Drug Deal
Main suspects in the case are Mighel D. (39) from Maasbracht, his 20-year-old son Guillermo D. and Angelo T. (19) from Echt. They allegedly lured 35-year-old Remy S. from Heerlen to Vrieheidepark on January 5 with a fabricated drug deal. They thought he would have their stolen drug phone.

Backseat
S. himself stated that he had parked his car at Vrieheide Park that Sunday. He reportedly got out for a moment while his girlfriend remained waiting in the passenger seat. When he returned, two men had been in the back seat of his car: Mighel D. and Angelo T..

According to S., he only drew his weapon when he was under fire from the other party. The shooter would have been Mighel D.. The latter has confessed to that. However, he claims that S. had fired the first bullets. Father D. allegedly fired back in self-defense.

Hospital
After the shooting, the Heerlen man drove to the hospital with his injured girlfriend. Almost simultaneously, father and son D. reported there. Mighel D. also appeared to have a gunshot wound. Both were detained at the hospital. The Heerlen man went to the police station a few days later. Police picked up Echtenaar Angelo T. only after a few weeks.

Soon after the shooting, it appeared that the judges in Maastricht gave credence to Remy S. He is also a suspect in the case, but is at large. He could most likely successfully invoke self-defense.

S.'s attorney Peer Szymkowiak said the opposing party's story was unknown to him. He also would never have heard that a third suspect, Angelo T. had been arrested.

Requests
The men from Maasbracht and Echt will face the court in Maastricht next week in an interim hearing on suspicion of attempted murder. Due to the corona crisis, the judges are only dealing with requests from the lawyers to end the detention of their clients.

Lawyers for the father and son declined to comment beforehand. According to Francoise Landerloo, who is assisting Angelo T., he rode with his uncle and cousin without knowing the purpose of the ride.
