The 40-year-old victim of a serious assault during a traffic brawl in Nuth may have been permanently disabled. The police confirmed this Tuesday evening on the TV program Detection Wanted.
The victim was beaten by multiple perpetrators on the highway near Nuth on Sunday, November 1, in the presence of his 10-year-old daughter. He received a hard blow to his face, after which he became unconscious. He was then hit several more times. According to police, the man broke his back in the altercation.
From the hospital bed, the victim told his story on the TV program. "The shoulders I can move. I do have feeling from my shoulders to the elbow. But the rest not, the legs not at all."
Commotion
The victim was driving home that Sunday afternoon - together with his daughter - from a riding school in the outlying area of Nuth. Around 2:30 pm, he stopped at the super traffic circle towards Brunssum, when a red Citroën C1 stopped to his left. When the traffic light turned green, both cars pulled up at the same time, but the victim was then cut off by the driver of the other car.
A little further on, commotion ensued when both cars stopped on the highway towards Hoensbroek. "I had to brake," the victim looks back. "And then I was like: why are you doing this? So I signaled to them with light signals. They then made gestures at me. I went to get a story. I didn't mean to argue or hit them. But then things got totally out of hand."
The man was so badly beaten that he says he can no longer work. "My daughter is my everything. I try to do everything for her."
Police were already able to arrest a 19-year-old man from Beekdaelen last Monday for involvement in the man's serious assault. The other two perpetrators are still without a trace.
