The lawyer of 23-year-old Moussa O., suspected of stabbing Jack Koker (55) to death, believes the justice system is aiming too high in the case against her Greek client. On Monday, sixteen years in prison were demanded against Moussa.

The Athens-born twenty-something stabbed Jack Koker to death in his home on Koningsplein in Maastricht on May 30, 2017.

Quite high

Attorney Sjanneke de Crom shows understanding for the demand, but stands very differently in the case than the prosecution. "If you look at what conclusions the prosecutor draws from the case, I understand the demand. Only: if you look at what my client comes up with ... He says he had to defend himself that day. Then a demand of sixteen years is pretty high."

No choice

De Crom argues that Moussa simply had no other choice. "He had no other choice, did the first and best thing available that day. That knife. And he stabbed with that, in order to escape from that house," the counselor concludes.

Buy Cocaine

Justice assumes that Koker was stabbed after a drug deal got out of hand. Indeed, interrogations indicate that Moussa and his girlfriend were at Koker's residence to buy cocaine. The prosecutor believes that Moussa simply did not want or could not pay. However, the main suspect himself claims he was in the residence to steal something from Koker, upon which the later victim attacked him.
