MAASTRICHT - A Maastricht woman rescued her radicalized daughter in Syria from the clutches of Islamic State. Mother and daughter are now detained in Turkey.
The girl, 19-year-old Aïcha, had left for Syria to marry Turkish Dutch jihadist Yilmaz, write newspaper De Limburger and Limburgs Dagblad. In April this year, her lawyer Francoise Landerloo received a last sign of life, a WhatsApp. Aïcha wrote: ''Sweet that you are so concerned. Sometimes you have to do, what you have to do. This is what I think is right."
Distress Call
After that, things remained quiet. At the end of last month, Aïcha's mother, Monique, traveled to Turkey to search for her daughter along the border with Syria. Without success. Then she received a cry for help from her daughter. Monique asks the Maastricht police for help in vain and then decides to leave for IS capital Raqqa herself.
The second rescue attempt is successful, though. Mother and daughter eventually manage to reach Turkey. There they are detained because Aïcha has no passport. According to lawyer Landerloo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now trying to get the pair released. If all goes well, they will be back in the Netherlands within a week. According to the Limburg newspapers, it is not yet known how the Maastricht authorities will treat Aïcha, as a victim or as a danger.

Aïcha's ex reacted via Twitter to the coverage in the Limburg newspapers. This jihadist seems mostly trying to wipe his own street clean.
