The Penitentiary Institution (PI) Heerhugowaard consists of the Zuyder Bos location.
Zuyder Bos was built in 1994. It is a modern prison with ten standard units. Each standard unit consists of a corridor with cells on both sides. One of these units is an extra care facility. In addition, Zuyder Bos also has the Amerswiel unit. This unit was built in 2000 and has an open setting (limited security and very limited security). It consists of eleven “houses”, which are set up in the form of terraced houses.
Only male inmates reside within PI Heerhugowaard. The total capacity is 315 inmates.

Never make a statement to anyone from the police before consulting with a lawyer: not as a suspect and not as a witness either. This also applies when the police officer is not sitting at a computer. The police may write down everything you say, even when you’re not in an official interrogation situation.
