The district of the Overijssel Court covers the following municipalities and is divided into 3 court locations. Enschede is only a court location for cantonal cases. In this area, the court handles first instance legal cases, meaning cases that have not been before a judge previously.

The Overijssel Court is the first instance that gives a legal judgment on a case or conflict in its district. After that, a party to the proceedings (for example, the convicted person or the Public Prosecution Service (om.nl)) can appeal to the Arnhem-Leeuwarden Court of Appeal.
Our advice / tip
Never make a statement to anyone from the police before consulting with a lawyer: not as a suspect and not as a witness either. This also applies when the police officer is not sitting at a computer. The police may write down everything you say, even when you’re not in an official interrogation situation.
