Central Netherlands Court

The district of the Central Netherlands Court covers the following municipalities and is divided into 5 regions. Read on the case distribution regulations page where you can file cases and at which hearing location the Central Netherlands Court will handle your case.

On January 1, 2013, the Central Netherlands Court was formed from the former courts of Utrecht and Zwolle-Lelystad (Lelystad location). It has jurisdiction to administer justice in the first instance within its district. This means that the court is the first instance to give a legal judgment on a case or conflict. After that, a party to the proceedings (for example, the convicted person or the Public Prosecution Service (om.nl)) can appeal to the Arnhem-Leeuwarden Court of Appeal. At the Central Netherlands Court, approximately 175 judges and 580 other employees work in permanent positions.

Our advice / tip
Never make a statement to anyone from the police before consulting with a lawyer: not as a suspect and not as a witness either. This also applies when the police officer is not sitting at a computer. The police may write down everything you say, even when you’re not in an official interrogation situation.
