Amsterdam District Court

The district of Amsterdam District Court includes the following municipalities: Aalsmeer, Amstelveen, Amsterdam, Diemen, Ouder-Amstel, Uithoorn. In this area, the Amsterdam District Court handles first instance cases, meaning cases that have not been before a judge previously.

Amsterdam District Court has jurisdiction to administer justice in first instance within its district. This means that the court is the first authority to give a legal judgment on a case or conflict. Afterwards, a party to the proceedings (for example, the convicted person or the Public Prosecution Service (om.nl)) can appeal to the Amsterdam Court of Appeal. Approximately 200 judges and 800 other employees work at Amsterdam District Court.
