MAASSTRICHT - Investigation services in Limburg have launched an extensive search for the fugitive boxing world champion Gevorg K. (23) from Heerlen. According to the justice department, he has been involved in the (sexual) exploitation of at least four Eastern Bloc women. He is also suspected of human trafficking, extortion and hostage-taking. A spokeswoman confirms this to De Telegraaf.
It was initially thought that K., along with two co-defendants, who are also unaccounted for, had made only one victim. The boxer, originally from Armenia, was previously in jail in the case, but was unexpectedly released in September of this year. The court in Maastricht decided yesterday that the now vanished K. and the two other suspects should be put behind bars again as soon as possible. According to the judges, the offenses involved are "too serious" and "a serious danger of the three main suspects committing offenses again" is amply present. Justice spokeswoman Cindy Reijnders: ,,When we wanted to arrest the suspects in question, they turned out not to be at the addresses indicated. Therefore, we have now set things in motion to be able to arrest them."
The fugitive trio allegedly had young women from Ukraine working for them in the clubs Ying Yang in Roermond and Red Lady in Herzogenrath. Serge Weening, attorney for Gervorg K., says he does not know where his client is currently staying.
