LANAKEN - Forensic experts searched again Tuesday in Belgium for evidence in the acid murder case. The experts had enlisted the help of a Stein-based company that specializes in cutting and grinding in concrete.
The investigation took place in Lanaken, Belgium. In that municipality lives Ron van K (53). His house and garden were searched. Justice does not want to say what the result of the action is. Van K. is suspected of involvement in the murder of Iraqi Mouhammed Al Jader in 2011 and of solving Al Jader and another Iraqi, Alan Gergeri, in acid. The latter was allegedly killed in 2009. According to prosecutors, the bodies were dismembered and dissolved in a mixture of sulfuric and nitric acid.
Besides Van K., there are five other suspects in the acid murder case. All are from the L. family from Tudderen. They are Michel (26), Maurice (21), the still fugitive sister Rachelle (20) and dad Hub (58) and mom Els (58). Van K., from Geleen, was a friend of the family and previously cooperated with the investigation. On his instructions, a new blood trail and a bullet point were found in a wall in the L. family's home. Van K.'s lawyer Wouter Smeets could not say yesterday whether the search in Belgium was also based on clues from his client himself or whether the justice system started searching for traces of its own accord. "I haven't spoken to my client in recent days," he said yesterday. A justice spokesman would not say yesterday what prompted the search.
The court in Maastricht expects to hear the substantive case in 2013. The next hearing is on Oct. 23.
